Review: All My Friends are Superheroes

All My Friends are Superheroes All My Friends are Superheroes by Andrew Kaufman
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

It was a good allegorical story. I'd rate it positively on the allegory part. Although some characters' actions didn't make sense to me, like that of Spooners. The story itself is decent, a story that despite all fantastical looking elements is rooted in everyday reality that we all witness. It is a story of coming to terms with life and emotions. The writing is simple and decent.

In my opinion, well despite giving it good marks for doing a good job as an allegorical tale, I can not overlook two aspects of the story that am not able to reconcile. First, what could have Hypno actually said to Perf that made her ignore him for six months, without a closure. Assuming that’s what being invisible to all but her meant.

Second, if anything Tom should be invisible to himself, because of his insecurities from all his unrequited love. Why would Perf who loves him and considers the love with him as 'True Love' not see him. I feel Tom can't be invisible to her, he can be to the whole world but not to her, for she is the one who has seen beyond his surface and knows his hopes and dreams and cherishes them as much as him if not more.

Humorous little story. I would like to call it a sparkling novel since it was good every once in a while.
