Review: Piranesi
Piranesi by Susanna ClarkeMy rating: 3 of 5 stars
3.5/5
It was good. What impressed me most is the way the story and characters are designed with a lot of development in such a slender volume. The author keeps the number of characters to a bare minimum which helps in giving them the characterization they deserve. There aren't many standalone novels of this length in this genre that can give the satisfaction of reading a good book.
One con remains. Like the author's Magnum opus Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell (which I'm a big fan of), there is a lot of burn in phase where you have to drag yourself to enjoy the fruit later. In fact this book is terribly boring till the chapter 3, by which time you're already a third into it. If you can bring yourself to do it you're in for a good book.
