Review: One of Us Is Lying

One of Us Is Lying One of Us Is Lying by Karen M. McManus
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I should start this by the disclaimer that book tastes are very subjective. It’s a good story not-so-good book. What I mean is the story progressed at a good pace, there were some nice side stories that do some character building while also titillating you.

An American teenager might enjoy this immensely. But for someone far removed from that setting might have to suffer through the book despite the story progressing at decent pace. And for the most part the book reads like a chick-lit. The biggest reason behind I labelling it as a not-so-good book, was the motivations of different characters never felt good enough. But then again I am not an American teenager, never have been one and never can be one, so what might look like a solid motivation for someone in that setting might look like a flimsy excuse to me and vice-versa. So, once I finished this book I was incredibly happy that my suffering came to an end.

If you have read a lot of whodunits and locked room mysteries, you can fairly zero down on the killer after a while. It’s okay. You can read it if you have a lot of free time or you enjoy chick-lit. Your mileage may vary.
